Dear Artist: BEFORE YOU DECIDE, ASK YOURSELF WHAT YOU REALLY WANT……

I said i wasn’t going to write anymore stuff advising artists or spreading my own ignorant views, but its the new year, and i decided to just write this one, could be the last………
Before you choose your manager, what comes to mind? A booking agent, a plugger or manager? If you know what you are looking for you will be able to choose and decide who to work with.
As an artist, you need to understand that the role of the manager, has changed significantly, gone are the days when the responsibility of the manager is to help source for record deals, or book shows, as the world keeps evolving, the role has moved from that to basically developing and unlocking values for their brands (business development)
In this era when do-it-yourself is the king, you need a manager who should be able to guide you to improve your revenue stream, convert the hardwork and buzz you getting in to revenue, study market trends, the Internet offers us tools and means to directly reach the fans understand what they want, whats working and what needs to stop, it offers to us means to know which demograph the artist is getting the most buzz and where to focus on.. E.T.C.
Choosing a manager is more like Pres. Buhari choosing his chief of staff, his primary role is to guide and cordinate the affairs of the state with the HoS, if the CoS is business minded it will reflect on the HoS and country at large. Same goes for choosing a manager or advisor.
A good manager has to have the right temperament, do dry analysis on the right part to follow, quick thinking, a good manager needs to tell the artist the truth he needs and not what he wants to hear it doesn’t matter if they are not personal friends as long as they are professional enough to understand each other and co-exist ( i don’t believe i have to be personal friends with my artist).
A good manager must have drive, determination, willing to learn, be business savvy and above all be a bridge.
This year as an artist if want to improve kill sentiments, hire the best person for the job and don’t think of federal character…. Na my person or na my tribe….. Make i stop here today.
