Kwesta is riding atop the crest of a massive wave right now. The K1 rapper has arguably the biggest song in South Africa right in Ngud’ featuring Cassper Nyovest. The slow burner has been an unquestionable radio hit for the past three months now enjoying massive airplay and chart success across all major stations. It is a far cry from the days when Kwesta penned his open letter to 5FM two years ago complaining of how the youth station was not reflecting the sentiment of the populace.
Keeping the massive momentum going , Kwesta has just dropped the new video for the third single off his double album DAKAR II – the somewhat controversialDay One featuring AKA & Tweezy. The video which seems to have been shot in Johannesburg and Durban features the three rappers performing in a basement parking lot and an abandoned shipping container while the cutaway shots features skateboarders and bike riders, before the video closes with a heart tugging scene of Kwesta holding his daughter.
The release of the video also coincided with the announcement that DAKA II and the single Ndud’ have both been certified Gold. His label, Sony released this statement to announce the certification;
Congratulations to Kwesta for achieving not one, but two, Gold certifications, for the album DaKAR II, as well as Gold single certification for his smash hit Ngud’. The single maintained the #1 radio chart position for 6 consecutive weeks, and remains the most listened to single in the country after holding down the #1 position on the RAMS airplay charts for 10 consecutive weeks.
DaKAR II is going down in history as the first Hip Hop double album to surpass Gold sales status, and is perfectly timed with his new single music video premier, titled Day One in recognition of the fans.
