Most people overestimate what they can do in one year and underestimate what they can do in ten years – Bill Gates
This quote literally changed my way and approach to life. When i left home about 10/11 years ago, i was coming to lagos with one goal, to succeed and be like my idols at the time. kenny Ogungbe and Dayo D1 Adeneye, watching Primetime on NTA and seeing the number of records the label was putting out was all i ever dreamt of, no one could stand in the way of my dream, not even the family that actually outcasted me for choosing to do what i wanted.
This is me, 10 years later, no label, i’m not on tv, and no where near kenny Ogungbe, what went wrong?
Its simple, i overestimated what i can accomplish in 1 year, and failed to understand that even Keke and D1 didn’t just start over night, it took time to get to where they are.
If i have to advice any artist, as the year is starting, my advice would be don’t make a plan, to blow up and…… draw a very big mental picture of the future,(long term plan) and pick what you know you can achieve in one year, as part of the long term plan and begin to work towards achieving that.
There is no such thing as short cut when it comes to achieving success. If your goal this year is getting a record deal, and over the years all you do is record demos that no one gets to hear, this year record and make plans for your demo to get to the people who might invest in your trade.
As this year starts it doesn’t matter if your pastor prayed for you last night to prosper in the new year as long as you don’t make a plan, you will end the year same way you ended the last and the one before it.
Create a general goal for yourself. After that you create a more specific goal, something which you can actually measure in some way. Then you break down the steps you need to take in order to reach that goal.
My name is Kaycee Ichie oguejiofor wishing you all a happy and prosperous new year.
