Juice WRLD’s family is speaking out in the wake of his death.
Just days after the 21-year-old rapper died in Chicago, his mother Carmella Wallace is opening up about his battle with prescription drug abuse and his fight to help others overcome their addictions.
“We loved Jarad with all of our hearts and cannot believe our time with him has been cut short,” Wallace tells TMZ. “As he often addressed in his music and to his fans, Jarad battled with prescription drug dependency.”
Juice was open about his battle with addiction, something his family also witnessed. “Addiction knows no boundaries and its impact goes way beyond the person fighting it,” his mother continued. “Jarad was a son, brother, grandson, friend and so much more to so many people who wanted more than anything to see him defeat addiction.”
The family hopes Juice’s story can help others with their addiction. “We hope the conversations he started in his music and his legacy will help others win their battles as that is what he wanted more than anything.”
Wallace ended by thanking Juice’s fans, friends, and family for their support, adding, “We know that Jarad’s legacy of love, joy and emotional honesty will live on.”
Juice died after suffering a seizure following a flight from L.A. to Chicago on Sunday. He allegedly overdosed after swallowing several Percocet pills in an attempt to hide them from the feds.
