Okay to this day i still get the help me get a label message, i do not know any label owners and when you ask why they need the label, they say i need this label so i can start getting this money e.t.c
Getting a label is not the issue most times, but the structure of the enterprise has made it a laughing matter, and you see artist saying the Label is suppose to give me a car, a house in Lekki , every friday we suppose go hangout, na wetin them Davido dey do be that, the label suppose gimme allowance how i suppose take chop….when i hear such utterances from artists deep inside of me i weep for this guys.
one time i was watching the iconic Q-tip of ATCQ’ interview, he said when they dropped their first album, the album went platinum, but he was still staying at his grandma’ basement.
What you and your manager should be concerned about is how much the label is willing to invest in your career, and what their plan is, how far they intend to take you . …and not a car and a house, no free chow even in free town, whatever investment anyone is putting on you, is a LOAN! you are suppose to payback.
You don’t make a dime until he/they recoup this/their investment on you….. some people will say your financial freedom starts from your second album, cos the first one is more or less a promotional project except the debut becomes a huge success.
When signing a deal it is important to state or talk budget for your project, how many expected singles before the album drops, how many videos and budget, choice of producers, engineers e.t.c things you can get for free go for it, you must not work with a Foster Zeeno if a Gee Gacan do it at a cheaper cost, if you are comfortable where you stay turn down the house and instead focus on the project. the lesser the expenses the quicker you pay up and begin to earn.
E-money’ money is not yours neither is Dilly’s money
